How Jesus Second Coming and Muslims Belief Makes Sense?

 An Islamic Eschatological Doctrine

Yes, Muslims unequivocally believe that Jesus, the son of Mary, will descend from the heavens to earth before the Day of Judgment. This is a core tenet of Islamic eschatology, based on definitive texts from the Qur’an and the Prophetic traditions (Hadith).

The Qur’anic Foundation:
While the Qur’an explicitly mentions the ascension of Jesus and denies his crucifixion, his return is indicated in a key verse:

"وَإِنَّهُ لَعِلْمٌ لِلسَّاعَةِ فَلَا تَمْتَرُنَّ بِهَا وَاتَّبِعُونِ ۚ هَٰذَا صِرَاطٌ مُسْتَقِيمٌ"
"And indeed, he [Jesus] will be a sign for [the coming of] the Hour. So do not doubt it, and follow Me. This is a straight path." (Qur’an 43:61)
Many classical commentators interpret "عِلْمٌ لِلسَّاعَةِ" (a sign for the Hour) as referring to his descent, making it a major portent of the Day of Judgment.

The Prophetic Traditions:
The details of Jesus’ return are vividly described in the Hadith collections of Bukhārī, Muslim, and others. These narrations form a coherent and widely accepted narrative:

  1. His Descent: Jesus will descend physically near the white minaret in the eastern side of Damascus (or according to some narrations, in Jerusalem), with his hands resting on the wings of two angels.

  2. His Role as a Just Ruler: He will arrive at a time of great turmoil, when the world is plagued by the deception of the False Messiah (Al-Masīḥ al-Dajjāl). Jesus will defeat and kill the Dajjāl. He will then rule the earth with justice, implementing the Islamic law (Shari'ah).

  3. A Unifier of the Ummah: He will lead the Muslims in prayer. A famous hadith states: "How will you be when the son of Mary descends amongst you and your Imam is from among yourselves?" (Bukhārī). This indicates he will lead the Muslim community but under the overall framework of Islam's finality.

  4. Establishing Peace and Blessing: His era will be marked by unprecedented peace, prosperity, and justice. Specific signs include:

    • The elimination of all enmity and hatred.

    • The breaking of the cross (understood as ending the false creed of divinity ascribed to him).

    • The abolition of the Jizyah (poll tax), because faith in its true form will be universally accepted, leaving no need for a covenant with People of the Book under those terms.

    • Abundance of wealth where charity will have no claimants.

    • Universal safety and harmony among all creatures (e.g., wolves living peacefully with sheep).

  5. His Death: After a reign of 40 years (as per some narrations), Jesus will die a natural death and will be buried alongside the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in Medina. His death will be one of the final major signs before the establishment of the Hour.

Theological Significance:

For Muslims, the return of Jesus corrects a major historical misunderstanding about his nature and mission. He will return not as a deity or the son of God, but as a servant of Allāh and a follower of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, affirming the core Islamic message of pure monotheism (Tawḥīd). His descent symbolizes the ultimate victory of truth over falsehood and God’s mercy in sending a revered figure to guide humanity in its final trials. Thus, the belief in Jesus' return is not peripheral; it is a powerful element of faith that links Muslims to a shared prophetic heritage and fosters hope for a divinely ordained era of global peace and justice.

How Is The Story of the Birth of Jesus in the Qur’an ?

The Qur’an narrates the miraculous birth of Jesus (ʿĪsā ibn Maryam) in several chapters, most prominently in Surah Maryam (Chapter 19) and Surah Āl ʿImrān (Chapter 3). Here is the account with references and key Arabic terms: In  Surah Āl ʿImrān , the story begins with the dedication of Mary’s mother, the wife of ʿImrān: "إِذْ قَالَتِ امْرَأَتُ عِمْرَانَ رَبِّ إِنِّي نَذَرْتُ لَكَ مَا فِي بَطْنِي مُحَرَّرًا فَتَقَبَّلْ مِنِّي ۖ إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ" "When the wife of ʿImrān said, 'My Lord, indeed I have pledged to You what is in my womb, consecrated [for Your service], so accept this from me. Indeed, You are the Hearing, the Knowing.'" (Qur’an 3:35) Maryam (Mary) is then placed under the guardianship of Prophet Zakariyyā (Zechariah). She grows up in piety and devotion: "فَتَقَبَّلَهَا رَبُّهَا بِقَبُولٍ حَسَنٍ وَأَنْبَتَهَا نَبَاتًا حَسَنًا وَكَفَّلَهَا زَكَرِيَّا" "So her Lord accepted her with good acceptance and caused her t...

How is The Status of Mary in Islam According the Qur’an narrated?

In Islam, Mary (Arabic:  Maryam ) is revered as one of the most righteous and exalted women in human history. The Qur’an dedicates an entire chapter (Surah Maryam) to her story, highlighting her piety, chastity, and divine election. She is described as being  chosen  above all women of the worlds (Qur’an 3:42),  purified  by God, and devoted in worship. Her miraculous conception of Jesus ( ‘Isa ) through the command of God—“Be!”—is detailed with profound respect, emphasizing her innocence and virtue. She is also the only woman mentioned by name in the Qur’an, and her lineage is traced back to the family of ‘Imran, a pious lineage. In Islamic tradition, she is seen as a model of faith, obedience, and submission to God—qualities central to Islam itself. Her role as the mother of Prophet Jesus further elevates her status, making her a bridge of reverence between Islam and Christianity. Quranic References:  In Islam, Mary (Arabic:   Maryam ) is rev...
